Tahriri is a traditional Palestinian embroidery technique known for its flowing, raised lines and decorative patterns. Unlike cross-stitch tatreez, Tahriri uses couching, where thread is laid onto the fabric and secured with small stitches. It is especially associated with the Bethlehem and Jerusalem areas and has historically been used to decorate Palestinian dresses and textiles.
Through this workshop, we hope to share not only the technique, but also the stories, memory, and cultural knowledge carried through Palestinian craft.
The Tatreez Collective is a cultural organisation working to preserve Palestinian embroidery through education, storytelling, and paid work for women artisans in Palestine. Through workshops, talks, products, and collaborative projects, we aim to bring Palestinian craft to wider audiences while creating meaningful opportunities for cultural preservation and income generation.
Our work is rooted in the belief that embroidery is more than decoration. It is a language of memory, identity, and collective care.
Your Culture, Your Craft, Your Collective.
Since 2015, Choose Love has worked with over 607 local partners in 51 countries, supporting people in times of crisis, providing daily essentials, and ensuring displaced families and individuals have what they need to rebuild their lives. In 10 years, they have supported more than 9 million people and raised $160 million to support refugees.
This workshop is open to anyone interested in Palestinian craft, embroidery, textiles, heritage, or slow creative practice. You do not need any prior stitching experience. All you need to bring is yourself.
Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
