About The Tatreez Collective

The Tatreez Collective is a cultural and social enterprise dedicated to preserving, teaching and reimagining Palestinian tatreez embroidery.

Working between Palestine and the UK, we develop workshops, products, research projects and artisan collaborations that help preserve Palestinian embroidery traditions while creating meaningful economic opportunities for women artisans in Palestine.

We are expanding our product-development work and are looking for up to two interns interested in contemporary fashion, Palestinian embroidery and ethical production.

About the Internship

This is a project-based internship offering practical experience in developing a fashion product from an initial idea through to a prototype or final sample.

The selected interns will work with The Tatreez Collective on a real product-development brief. They will receive guidance and feedback throughout the process while gaining experience in design development, pattern cutting, fabric selection, sampling and preparing a product for production.

The exact scope, schedule, deliverables and practical arrangements will be agreed with each selected candidate before the internship begins.

What You Will Work On

Depending on your skills, interests and the needs of the project, your work may include:

• Researching current ready-to-wear trends and translating relevant ideas into practical and wearable products.

• Developing initial concepts, mood boards and design sketches.

• Creating technical drawings, construction notes and basic production instructions.

• Supporting the development of a product from concept through to prototype or final sample.

• Exploring pattern cutting, particularly for trousers and summer ready-to-wear garments.

• Considering garment fit, construction, movement and finishing.

• Researching natural fabrics, including their composition, weight, drape and suitability for embroidery.

• Exploring how Palestinian embroidery can be integrated into contemporary garments in a practical, minimal and refined way.

• Creating measurements, size guides and basic grading notes.

• Producing or supporting the production of samples and prototypes.

• Reviewing samples and identifying possible improvements to fit, construction and finishing.

• Supporting quality checks relating to fabric behaviour, garment finishing and embroidery execution.

Who We Are Looking For

This opportunity may suit a current fashion or design student who:

• Is interested in fashion design, garment construction or product development.

• Is interested in Palestinian embroidery, cultural design and ethical production.

• Has some knowledge of pattern cutting, sewing, sampling or technical fashion development.

• Is willing to research, experiment, receive feedback and develop ideas collaboratively.

• Can communicate clearly and work independently between scheduled meetings.

• Is organised and able to work towards an agreed project timeline.

• Can share examples of relevant university, personal or professional work.

You do not need to have professional experience in every area listed above. We are interested in applicants who demonstrate relevant foundational skills, curiosity, commitment and the potential to develop through the internship and are willing to learn.

Nice to Have

It would be helpful for candidates to have access to a workshop, studio or relevant garment-development tools, such as:

• A sewing machine.

• Pattern-cutting equipment.

• A cutting table or suitable workspace.

• Garment construction and finishing tools.

• Other facilities that could support sampling and prototyping.

Access to these facilities is preferred but is not an automatic requirement. Candidates should explain in their application what tools, equipment, workspace or workshop facilities they can currently access. Individual circumstances can be discussed during the interview process.
